Once In A Blue Moon

Once In A Blue Moon

An extraordinary cosmic phenomenon arrives in Bangkok this autumn, transformed into the season’s most coveted luxury lifestyle item. The Okura Prestige Bangkok is unveiling its 2026 masterpiece, the “Once in a Blue Moon”– Mooncake Collection. Drawing inspiration from the elusive lunar spectacle that refines our sky only once in a rare alignment, this limited-edition collection breaks away from standard seasonal offerings.

The mooncake collection traces its inspiration to Tsukimi, the ancient Japanese custom of moon-viewing born in the refined imperial courts. Dating back, nobles and poets gathered under the harvest sky to revere the moon as a sacred mirror to the human soul, composing verses and exchanging tokens of profound respect. The Okura Prestige Bangkok masterfully crafts this ancient mindfulness, fusing it with the “Blue Moon” concept to remind us that while the calendar year moves predictably forward, the chance to express true gratitude to those who matter most is a rare window that must be captured.

Each mooncake is housed in a minimalist Japanese wooden box.

Crafted in the spirit of Omotenashi, the Japanese art of heartfelt hospitality, each selection is housed in a minimalist Japanese wooden box and hand-wrapped in traditional Furoshiki cloth. The custom-designed textile features a dramatic white base contrasted by deep indigo bamboo leaves, capturing the shifting shadows of a midnight grove under a full moon. The thoughtful act of untying the hand-knotted fabric transforms the opening into an experience of high anticipation, making it the ultimate corporate statement and personal token of appreciation.

Beneath the artisanal folds lies a bold culinary journey where classic heritage seamlessly blends with contemporary lifestyle tastes across six distinct flavours. The Chantaburi Monthong Durian with Single Egg Yolk balances rich, decadent sweetness with a savoury salted yolk, while the Golden Custard shines as a smooth, minimalist masterpiece that melts perfectly. For a vibrant and modern twist, the Sunkist Orange introduces a clean, citrus aromatic profile that cuts through the traditional pastry richness.
