Nitra Serenity Centre

Nitra Serenity Centre at 137 Pillars Suites & Residences Bangkok is one of the most relaxing spas that I’ve discovered since we started moving on from the strict Covid-19 restraints imposed on us for the past two years. The well-appointed spa offers a large selection of modern treatments as well as many traditional therapeutic massages and other beneficial treatments.

We booked a couple’s afternoon slot and opted for the spa’s signature 60-minute aromatherapy treatment as we’d had a busy few weeks and wanted to feel restored and reinvigorated. But before we could experience the healing hands of our therapists, we needed to choose which essential oil we preferred. Our therapist guided us through some of the essential oils on offer and gave us a detailed description of each oil and the benefits we could expect.

I liked the smell of Lavender and it sounded just right to me as one of its main properties is to promote stress relief. As I’d only just finished writing a biography for a well-known Thai businessman, I felt pretty stressed out and this was my ticket to mental and physical restoration. My wife selected ylang-ylang as she too felt a little tension and needed to boost her mood, lower her blood pressure and alleviate the anxiety she been experiencing. Once we’d dispatched with the formalities, it was time to get horizontal.

Located on the 28th floor of the hotel, Nitra Serenity Centre’s underlying philosophy is to focus on ensuring a truly head to toe pampering experience that leaves guests feeling revitalised and bursting with energy. Relaxing and rejuvenating therapies, combined with the calming aromas of essential oils, help to balance hormonal, cortisol and adrenaline levels in the body through the sense of smell and touch.

Our twin treatment room was nicely chilled, but not too cold, the lighting was perfect and the sound system had some relaxing spa music playing softly. My therapist directed me to a chair at the end of the bed and asked me to removed my slippers. I probably have the most sensitive feet in the world and one touch in the wrong place usually sets me off. However, when I mentioned this to her, she very carefully began cleaning my feet after which she skilfully dried each foot without me being triggered once.

Unlike many of the other spas that I’ve been to over the years, the therapists at Nitra Serenity Centre take a slightly different approach to the aromatherapy massage. Instead of long sweeping strokes along the arms and legs, my therapist concentrated on short, strong strokes that really resuscitated my aching muscles. From the tips of my toes to the top of my neck, she moved ever so slowly and deliberately, carefully running her fingers through the centre of each muscle and then stroking each side of the same muscle. I could actually feel the stress evaporating from every pore after each carefully administered stroke.

In fact, I was so relaxed during the first 20 or so minutes that my therapist had to ask me twice to turn over; I was so totally immersed in the session. I’d pointed out during our pre-treatment chat that I’d recently had surgery and the therapist carefully avoided the scar tissue that I never felt the need to lift a hand as she approached the area. I think it tells a great deal about the expertise and professionalism of a therapist when there’s hardly a spoken word between giver and receiver. Apart from the odd grunt here and there, I didn’t have to say a word and that allowed me to fully open up to the treatment and receive the ultimate benefits.

With the treatment over, I sat up on the massage bed while my therapist gave me a gentle massage along my spine, along my shoulders and around my neck. She then draped a hot towel over my back and gently applied pressure to key points. She informed me not to shower for the next few hours to allow the lavender oil to be absorbed into my skin. By the time I went to bed a few hours later that evening I felt exhausted. In the morning when I woke up, I felt totally revitalised as if I’d slept for a hundred years.

If you too are suffering from work related stress, a muscle problem or any type of fatigue, don’t ignore your body’s signals, go and try a relaxing massage. I definitely recommend Nitra Serenity Centre not only for its wide array of treatments and therapies, but also because of its highly-skilled therapists.
