Situated between Bangkok’s high-end Ratchaprasong shopping district and the city’s most-beloved green space, Lumpini Park, The St. Regis Bangkok provides its well-heeled guests with a haven of tranquillity, an impressive array of time-honoured traditions and the embodiment of luxury living. Now celebrating a decade of decadent yet refined epicurean escapades and a host of classic conventions, this is a hotel that boasts a rich heritage like no other.
From the moment you enter the huge ground floor foyer of The St. Regis, which is home to two outstanding restaurants in Zuma and IGNIV, as well as The Lounge, an intimate space offering refreshing teas and bespoke coffees, you are immediately shielded from the buzz of 21st century Bangkok. It’s here that the legend of The St. Regis comes to life and the beautiful interiors artistically blend modern furnishings with sculptured Thai design.
A bank of elevators whisks guests up to the inner sanctum of The St. Regis where four integral elements of the hotel come together in one magnificent space: VIU; The St. Regis Bar; Decanter; and the main lobby. Facing you as exit the elevator is the legendary The St. Regis Bar, where just like in the original New York bar, many an extravagant night has been experienced. From sabering a bottle of the finest Champagne to delighting in sipping a renowned Bloody Mary, first created at the St. Regis New York in 1934, there is something for everyone here. Just to the left of the St. Regis Bar is another institution to the world of alcoholic beverages in Decanter, an elegant lounge serving the world’s finest wines and best whiskies.

To the left is the bright and airy Viu, an all-day restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Like the phases of the moon, Viu also changes its mood as day passes to night and natural sunlight is replaced with dimmed lighting. The restaurant sports a dual centrepiece; to one side is a rustic farmhouse style kitchen with black stone flooring, while the dining area and its polished herringbone flooring leads the eye to the expansive greenery of the Royal Bangkok Sports Club framed through floor to ceiling windows.
The final element of the 12th floor is the splendid reception area, where guests are seated for the formalities of check-in. The entire open-plan floor is elegantly appointed with marble floors topped with stylish rugs and dark wood furniture, while the winding glass and marble staircase wraps itself around a massive Thai-designed chandelier and leads to the upper floor’s meeting rooms and grand Astor Ballroom.
We checked-in to the Caroline Astor Suite, a spacious suite that provides guests with a marvellous living area complete with a large sofa, two lounge chairs and a coffee table, plus a separate work desk and small dining table and four chairs. The beautiful bedroom looks directly over The Royal Bangkok Sports Club while the stunning marble bathroom’s pièce de résistance is the standalone bathtub that offers uninterrupted views of western Bangkok. The entire suite is styled in a muted colour palette and features contemporary décor that’s easy on the eye yet keeps the mind wandering as you admire the intricately woven Thai silks and other artistic features that adorn the walls. Wooden floors, polished to perfection link the living area to the plush carpeted bedroom, which in turn leads to the white marble bathroom.

Every floor at The St. Regis features its unique butler service, which offers guests everything from a piping hot cup of freshly brewed coffee any time of day or night to a clothes pressing service. The all-Thai butler team have decades of experience between them and are able to provide answers to virtually any question a guest may have about the hotel, Bangkok’s vast shopping and entertainment centres or travelling to another province within the Kingdom.
The St. Regis Bangkok has a total of 228 rooms and suites and is topped with The Owner’s Penthouse, a two-storey, three-bedroom residence with a spacious indoor and outdoor setting and sunset views. The overall style of each room is consistent across all floors and each provides guests with state-of-the-art entertainment systems and comfortable living and sleeping facilities. We were particularly impressed with king size bed, 300 thread-count linens and pillows that felt like marshmallows.
After a decade of unprecedented service, plans are underway to upgrade all guest rooms and facilities plus a holistic wellness centre will be created on level 15. The recent opening of Clinique La Prairie Aesthetics & Medical Spa will form an oasis in the middle of the city. Guests can enjoy a wide array of spa therapies and specialised treatments from the medical aesthetics side of the spa. If plans go accordingly, there will be a whole suite of holistic programmes that tap into areas such as workout guidance, nutrition and well-being.
