Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration

Bangkok Marriott Hotel The Surawongse has unveiled its exclusive mooncake collection, created in collaboration with The Gallery, a social enterprise supporting Thai artists and entrepreneurs. This year, the hotel has teamed up with renowned Thai artist Jarunee Mateekul, affectionately known as ‘Uncle Pl’, to bring a blend of artistry and flavour to the Mid-Autumn Festival celebration.

 

The collaboration with the gallery for The Lunar Pouch packaging, which supports the local community, ‘Ton Pao’ from Chiang Mai province reflects the Gallery’s commitment to promoting Thai culture and fostering local talent. They have curated a selection of mooncakes that not only tantalise the taste buds but also narrate a tale of creativity and passion within the local community.

 

 

Furthermore, their dedication to preserving the value of handmade paper and safeguarding the identity of the paper-making community in Chiang Mai is evident. Sa Paper, crafted from natural materials like corn, sugarcane bagasse, coffee, peanut shells, etc., showcases a diverse array of styles and patterns originating from the villagers’ ingenuity within the community.

 

Jarunee Mateekul’s journey into the art world began under the guidance of esteemed mentors, including ‘Kru To’ – M.L. Chiratorn Chirapravati – and ‘Kru Parn’ – Somnuek Klangnok. Inspired by the wisdom imparted by her mentors, Jarunee embarked on a creative journey that led her to discover her unique artistic skill.

 

The mooncake collection features flavours inspired by the diverse culinary offerings of Bangkok Marriott Hotel The Surawongse’s specialty restaurants: Bangkok Marriott Hotel The Surawongse – Chantaburi Durian with Single Egg Yolk; Praya Kitchen – Thai Tea Lotus with Single Egg Yolk; YAO Restaurant & Bar – Mixed Nuts with Pork Bak Kwa with Single Egg Yolk; and Kissuisen – Yuzu Flavour.

 

 

The mooncake collection will be available for purchase at Bangkok Marriott Hotel The Surawongse and The Gallery from 1st July – 17th September, allowing guests to experience the art of giving and the joy of the Mid-Autumn Festival. The Lunar Pouch (with 4 individual boxes 80 gsm) is priced at Bt2,288 net; the Dragon’s Treasure Chest (with 4 individual boxes 170 gsm) is priced at Bt1,288 net; and an individual box is priced at Bt198. A special early bird 15% discount is available from 1st July – 1st August.
