The Siam Tea Room, the enchanting waterside Thai dining destination at Asiatique The Riverfront, is celebrating the start of Thai summertime with its new khao chae promotion, which will let diners cool off and treat their taste buds on the banks of Bangkok’s River of Kings.

 

From 1st March – 31st May, to coincide with the hottest months of the year in Thailand, guests can experience the fresh and fragrant flavours of khao chae, an elegant dish of chilled jasmine rice with traditional condiments. Literally meaning soaked rice, this seasonal specialty originated in the Mon Kingdom before it was adopted and enhanced by the Royal Thai court during the reign of King Rama V.

The Khao Chae Chao Phraya experience at The Siam Tea Room includes a choice of sublime set menus for one or two people, or a delectable selection of à la carte dishes. With the set menus, guests are greeted with an original welcome drink of lychee, winter solstice, salted bitter orange and young ginger syrup, topped with grilled shallots and peanuts, and an appetiser of ma-hor – fresh, seasonal sour fruits topped with peanuts.

 

Diners can then indulge in the classic khao chae bowl of chilled aromatic jasmine rice in fragrant water, accompanied by an extended selection of condiments including fried young pepper stuffed with pork & shrimp in fluffy egg, fried dried chilies stuffed with sweet fish, fried marinated shrimp paste bun, sweet shredded fish, marinated pork with steamed salted fish topped with egg yolk, roasted coconut mango salad, sweet pickled turnip, sweet shredded pork, fried butterfly pea stuffed with chicken, fried frangipani flowers stuffed with shrimp, deep-fried shallot stuffed with chicken, deep-fried salted egg, and fresh mixed vegetables. This epicurean adventure will conclude with a delightful dessert of sugar palm, rose water and fruit jelly on ice.

The set menu is priced at Bt920++ for one person or Bt1,820++ for two guests. A takeaway option is also available for Bt850++ per person. Alternatively, families, friends and couples can come together and savour the full Khao Chae Chao Phraya à la carte experience, delighting in a series of side dishes including sweet shredded beef with coriander seeds (Bt180++), sweet & crispy fish in spicy sweet & sour sauce (Bt220++), sweet & crispy dried shrimp (Bt180++), sweet & crispy dried squid (Bt180++), and crispy-fried golden beans (Bt180++).

 

Cool, aromatic and refreshing, khao chae has now become a summertime favourite of the Thai people. This exquisite culinary occasion can be enjoyed in a serene waterside setting, overlooking the Chao Phraya River at The Siam Tea Room, Asiatique The Riverfront.
