Diwali – Festival Of Lights
The International Women’s Club of Thailand (IWC), led by President Manjit Walia, recently celebrated Diwali – Festival of Lights – at Amritsr Bangkok Indian Restaurant. The ladies, who were all dressed in colourful Indian outfits, were served a lavish selection of Indian food as they joined together to lighten up each other’s lives with hope and dreams.
Diwali is a festival of lights and one of the major festivals celebrated by Hindus, Jains, Sikhs and some Buddhists, notably Newar Buddhists. The festival usually lasts five days and is celebrated during the Hindu lunisolar month Kartika. Symbolising the spiritual victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance, it is one of the most important festivals celebrated in India and often compared to Christmas in the West.
The lively event was graced by guests-of-honour from the diplomatic corps.
