Thailand’s Pioneering Pimalai
Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH) has announced the launch of Considerate Collection, naming Thailand’s pioneering Pimalai Resort & Spa as one of the 26 founding hotels within the collection. Considerate Collection is a new community of actively sustainable luxury hotels going the extra eco mile, proving that luxury is compatible with longevity.
SLH has collaborated with the most respectable sustainable travel and luxury hospitality players to create a trusted and transparent framework. These include Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) – the international, independent, not-for-profit body established by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO); and Greenview, whose platform is the only GSTC-recognised sustainable tourism management tool.
Criteria for the Considerate Collection fully align with the GSTC’s global criteria across three key pillars ensuring all the hotels are Community Minded, Cultural Custodians and Environmentally Conscious. These pillars are all underpinned by a strong sustainability management system.
Nestled in 100 acres of lush jungle on the Thai island of Koh Lanta, cascading gently down to a 900-metre stretch of pure white sand at Kantiang Bay, Pimalai Resort & Spa is a haven of tranquility. With just 121 stylish rooms, spacious suites and spectacular villas with up to three bedrooms and private pools, plus world-class restaurants, a spectacular elevated infinity pool, non-motorised water sports, the award-winning Pimalai Spa and an impressive Sports Centre with full-size tennis courts, this five-star, eco-friendly retreat is a place where guests come to relax and reconnect with nature.
“We are delighted to be one of the founding members of the Considerate Collection. Ever since our resort was founded 20 years ago, we have strived to work in harmony with the island’s community and conserve its pristine ecosystems. Our guests can see this commitment in action with numerous environmental initiatives, while also immersing themselves in authentic southern Thai culture through a range of activities and excursions. By becoming part of SLH’s new collection of responsible hotels and resorts, we hope to attract even more travellers to enjoy an eco-sensitive escape at Pimalai,” said Patrice Landrein, Pimalai’s General Manager.
Daniel Luddington, VP of Development, Small Luxury Hotels of the World said “We’ve carefully curated the Considerate Collection to spotlight luxury boutique hotels exemplary in their sustainability efforts, making it easier for customers and the travel trade to make better-considered choices. Pimalai Resort & Spa is a shining example of a small luxury hotel making a big difference.”
Each hotel within the Considerate Collection either has been certified by a GSTC Accredited Certification Body or certified to a GSTC Recognised Standard or has passed an assessment by the SLH Sustainability Advisory Panel with review by the GSTC.
