Tee-Time At Banyan
Nestled between the black mountains and blue seas of Thailand’s glittering gulf coast, Banyan Golf Club Hua Hin, the award-winning 18-hole championship course, has launched its “Introduction to Golf” programme aiming to entice Thai residents and expats to shake off their post-lockdown blues and discover the health benefits of golf under the guidance of professional golf instructors.
Opened in 2008, the stunning design was created by Thailand’s number one golf architect, Pirapon Namatra. Today, Banyan Golf Club is a spectacular par-72 course featuring undulating fairways, manicured greens and a variety of different tee boxes, to make it fun, enjoyable and challenging for golfers of all levels. The signature 15th hole provides panoramic views across the Gulf of Thailand to Singtoh Island, while the 610-yard par-5 12th hole will test the driving skills of the best golfers. It is hardly surprising that the course has won several awards including “Best Golf Club Experience in Asia Pacific” in 2019 and one of Rolex’s “World’s Top 1000 Golf Courses” in 2012.
With such a pedigree, Banyan Golf Club is the ideal place to learn the basics of golf as the Banyan Golf Academy is now offering a choice of lessons for beginners. Led by John Wither, an award-winning coach and PGA pro from St. Andrews in Scotland, guests will be able to learn all of the sport’s secrets, from the basics of grip, stance and swing, to advanced techniques like chipping and putting.
The two-hour “Introduction to Golf” programme is designed to equip beginners with the basic skills and knowledge they need. After a welcome drink at the golf club, students will be given a summary of golf rules and etiquette, a tour of the course and facilities, a short game session, and coaching on the driving range. The lesson concludes with a video analysis and refreshments. Priced at Bt3,500 for singles or Bt4,500 per couple, this is a great way to quickly pick up a new pastime.
Alternatively, the “Play Golf in 3 Days” package will give guests the confidence to play golf in just three sessions. Having learnt the sport’s fundamentals on the first day, students will spend Day Two perfecting their swing and using different clubs. Then on Day Three, golfers will tee-off for their first nine holes. Each day will end with a debriefing and video analysis, followed by refreshments. Upon completion of the course, players will be given a certificate and a handicap profile. This comprehensive package is priced at Bt14,900 for singles and Bt21,900 for couples, including green fees, equipment rental, carts and caddies.
“As Thailand emerges from lockdown, there has never been a better opportunity to break out of your old routine and learn a new skill, surrounded by nature. Golf lets you spend time outdoors, get fit and breathe in the fresh air, while also mastering one of the world’s oldest and noblest sports. Banyan Golf Club and Banyan Golf Academy will set you on the journey to an exciting and rewarding new life as a golfer,” said Stacey Walton, General Manager of Banyan Golf Club.
“We have made a number of improvements since opening in 2008 including better drainage. We are now able to capture all excess water for use throughout the course. From a social aspect, we have members from all over the world, some of who are still here due to the closure of the airports. Many of our members live locally but we also have large groups coming down from Bangkok to play in many of the competitions we host each month. If you are new to Thailand and are looking for a great social scene in Hua Hin, I encourage you to pay us a visit,” added Stacey.
Guests who want to combine their golfing lessons with a long-stay vacation can take advantage of a new accommodation offer at Banyan Thailand, Hua Hin. Under the “Extended Family Escapes” package, they can rent a private pool villa at Banyan Village for only Bt25,000 per month, allowing families to escape the city and unwind in space and style. Guests can either stay throughout the rental period, visit the villa multiple times, or invite family and friends to use it while they are back to Bangkok.
