Upping The Brunch Ante
For thousands of Bangkokians, weekends in the city have become synonymous for long, lazy brunches with friends and family at one of the countless hotels and restaurants offering such gastronomic journeys. Of course, after you’ve sampled your first foie gras, after you’ve devoured your second giant fresh water tiger prawn or after you’ve sampled yet another glass of bubbly, there’s little else that would pique your interest, right? Wrong. The Dusit Thani has just upped the weekend brunch ante to a whole new level.
Strap yourself in for the mother-of-all-brunches, the Beyond Boundaries brunch served only at the Dusit Thani every Saturday and Sunday from 11.30 to 7pm. Yes, you’re reading that right; seven-and-a-half hours of non-stop dining and drinking. The basic package starts at Bt2,900++ per person and includes the most wonderful seafood buffer in town plus unlimited soft drinks, but for Bt3,600++ per person you get unlimited beer and wine and for Bt4,900++ per person you’ll be served unlimited Taitinger champagne to wash down those fresh French oysters.
This amazing deal coincides with the Dusit Thani’s celebrations marking its 49 years of dedicated service to its millions of adoring customers who hail from every part of the world. But there is only a limited amount of time you’ll be able to say you went ‘Beyond Boundaries’ at the Dusit Thani as the hotel is set to close its doors on 5th January 2019. Yet from the ashes of the old, a phoenix will arise and the Dusit Thani will rise again in steel and glass, a taller more dominating landmark but one that will hold true to Dusit Thani’s legendary service.
But, I digress so let’s get back to brunch. Starting at 11.30 at Benjarong and its waterfall inspired terrace, the lead chef serves up Amuse Bouche, a tantalizing appetizer to ruffle your taste buds and energies your digestive enzymes. Diners can then escape the shackles of other brunches gently go about grazing on seafood from around the world such as Canadian lobster, Alaskan king crab, mussels from New Zealand, Scottish scallops, French, Australian and American oysters and salmon from Norway.
For cooked-to-order mains, you can continue your global journey with New Zealand lamb, US Rib eye steaks, Phuket lobster and a whole host of other delicacies including produce from Thailand’s famed Royal Project. Guests with a sweet tooth can also indulge in a room full of glorious desserts, while a cheese section ensures that everyone’s tastes are fully covered.
Enjoy live entertainment from a live band from noon through to 4pm, when the brunch makes way for canapes and cocktails served outdoors by the refreshing waterfall.
